OSELAS.BSP( ) - Minimum Edition

OSELAS.BSP()
Linux Board Support Overview

The OSELAS.BSP( ) Minimum edition provides a minimal embedded Linux BSP: it consists only of a boot loader, kernel and glibc and provides a lean POSIX run-time.

Areas of application:

  • Replacing micro controller software with embedded Linux
  • Real time controllers
  • Customer-specific software
  • Hardware: ARM, x86, PowerPC, MIPS, SH, Blackfin. Minimum: 70 MHz, recommended: 200 MHz

Today embedded systems are no longer as cost-sensitive as they were a few years ago: the differences in price levels hardly justify the use of processors below the 200 Mhz class in embedded Linux projects anymore.

There are, however, some applications left where "tiny" Linux systems are reasonable: in extremely high-volume projects without high requirements for communication and IT integration, Linux can be primarily used as a hardware abstraction layer.

In the face of such requirements, Pengutronix can provide an OSELAS.BSP( ), which only consists of boot loader, kernel, glibc and applications. The latter are already capable of accessing all functionalities of the kernel and glibc and thus realise the full potential of the POSIX run-time environment. Areas of application are the replacement of "bare metal software" on micro controllers, DSPs and real time systems.
